About

Robin Sedivy's musical journey is a tapestry woven with dedication and talent, spanning various genres and stages across a vibrant career. He started out as a percussionist in school concert, symphonic, and marching bands, including a stint as timpanist in the MN Central Lakes Regional Band. Going behind the drumset for the first time in seventh grade is where he found his first true passion, and he would go on to play with school jazz bands from eight grade through college. During high school, he also played kit for The Magic Mushponies, contributing to two recorded albums, and for the first off-Broadway run of The Who's "Tommy". In college, Robin would go on to experience his most impactful musical sea change in roles with Sowah Mensah and the Macalester African Music Ensemble as a vocalist, flautist, xylophonist, lead drummer, and percussionist. During those years, Robin still continued to record and gig out on the drum kit, playing and singing backing vocals for bands like The Stylites, Byron's Bulb, Zion Tribe and The Trucks Through This Town. He would later go on to tour and play kit for a couple years with Dred I Dread. Then, after a years-long hiatus, Robin returned to the scene in 2018, reborn as artist and producer, GrayBeat. GrayBeat has evolved into an ambitious and expansive musical project and is Robin's main musical focus. In 2024, GrayBeat received the MN Synthy Award for Best Synth Pop Record with "GalactiCruisin'" after two years of mentorship under Grammy-Winning Producer Michael Mangini. During this time, Robin found cause an advocate for the next generation of musicians in roles as a student and artist liaison for renowned vocal and artist coach Melissa Mulligan, and appearances as a technology speaker at events like Find Your Stage and technology mentorship roles at MN Music Coalition. Over his career, Robin's stage presence has graced notable venues and cities, opening for industry giants like Big Brother & the Holding Company, Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks, and Steel Pulse. He's performed in major cities and towns across the Midwest, South & West Coast, including shows at the National Teacher Conference, Disneyland and the 10,000 Lakes Music Festival. Robin's studio credits not only include recorded collaborations with myriad artists like Hookdiggy and Wayne Sayres, but also reflect his multifaceted talents. From drumming and percussion to engineering, songwriting, composing, producing, mixing, and mastering, Robin is focused on a holistic and self-empowering approach to music production. Through dedication, talent, and a boundless passion for music, Robin Sedivy stands as a beacon of artistry and inspiration in the music industry.
