J. Carmichael is a songwriter from Idaho performing and recording songs that are rooted in two of songwriter's most honest genres, country and punk. J performs these songs solo on mandolin family instruments (mando, octave mando, mandocello, tenor guitar/banjo) and sometimes pulls out his six string. He writes songs of prayer and confession as well as songs of dissidence and protest. He has shared the stage with alt-country/country punk bands like Lucero, Tumbledown, John Moreland, Reckless Kelly, Scott Biram, Two Cow Garage and has played festivals and venues from Massachusetts to Washington State, to Texas to Nashville and plenty in between.
