About

Impuritan – an experimental rock three-piece from San Francisco – consists of Alex Eliopoulos (guitar/bass/keys/vocals), David Molina (guitar/bass/keys/electronics/vocals), and Pepe Abad (drums/percussion). Formed in 2011 by Alex as a solo recording project, the lineup bloomed into a musical collective. Its current members are Bay Area residents with diverse cultural backgrounds from Greece, El Salvador, and Peru respectively. The music's experimental nature allows for both duo and trio performances by combining live instrumentation with loops & samples to create lush walls of sound. Since 2012, the band has performed consistently at Bay Area music venues, art galleries, and outdoor spaces – often with projections & visuals to enhance the live experience. Impuritan’s debut album Hijacked Artifacts, Treasured Forms (a three-song EP) was released in 2012 on Distant Spore Records. Their first full-length album Make It Look Like Nothing Happened was released in 2014. Both albums received positive reviews from KZSU Stanford and The Bay Bridged, plus college radio airplay on KALX and KZSU. Impuritan toured the Pacific Northwest and Southern California in the summer of 2014, plus organized and curated Mutant Soundwave Festival (a day-long event in Oakland, CA featuring experimental, noisy indie music). In 2016, Impuritan released Everything Is Magick - an eight-song alchemical mix of psychedelia, post-rock, space-rock, ambient noise, and surf. They completed a nine-date US East Coast tour in June 2016 and ten-date US West Coast tour in April 2017 (from the northern tip of Washington to the southern tip of California). Their albums have received positive reviews and consistent airplay on Bay Area stations such as KALX, KZSU, KFJC, and online in The Bay Bridged, Pow Magazine, and KQED. On their upcoming fourth album “Altered Statues”, Impuritan captures the quintessence of experimental rock by blending a wide foundation of post-rock with hybrid affection for psychedelic, noise-driven, and ambient sonics. The brief yet dense EP embraces an expansive range in just under 14 minutes – a burst of mind-bending feeling and a call to freedom through sound amidst a jaded modern age. (New single “Spruce” is out now.) Impuritan is a sonic embodiment of life, death, love, hate, space, time, evolution and extinction. An abstract dream or visceral nightmare. In stereo. Wellspring eternal.
