  • Neil Young's Pono Kickstarter Ended Today With $6.22 Million Pledged

    Neil Young's Pono Kickstarter campaign to launch a better-audio player and download store ended today, far surpassing it's original $800,000 goal. $6,225,354 was pledged by 18,220 backers during the campaign. This makes Pono, which will play FLAC or ultra-high resolution recordings, the third most successful fundraising project ever on the Kickstarter platform.     For her new video, Boston dream-folk singer Marissa Nadler has enlisted a kindred spirit and fellow Massachusetts resident: Naomi Yang of Galaxie 500.     Cloud Nothings just put out their great fourth record, Here and Nowhere Else, and now they're touring around North America with its songs.   • There's a Mac DeMarco Video Game Called Squish'Em

    Subbacultcha! has released Squish'Em, a video game that has you play as Mac DeMarco while attempting to kill as many crawling insects as you can by stubbing them out with cigarettes. DeMarco's recently released Salad Days makes for excellent companion music, assuming you don't immediately X out in frustration.   • $30 Music Router Gramofon Makes Listening Social, Should Make Sonos Nervous

    Gramofon, a $30 - $50 music router and wifi hotspot, has launched on Kickstarter.  Backed by Fon,  the creator of hugely popular free wifi hotspots, Gramofon connects Spotify, and eventually other cloud muisc services, to home stereo systems.  Mobile devices, including those of visting friends, serve as the remote control.  In addition to other streaming services, Fon says that it will eventually add multi-room playback, a core feature of the more costly Sonos system.
