John Norris Interviews FIDLAR for Noisevox's Face Time Series

About the Band:

"Fuck it dog, life’s a risk." If you’re a regular visitor of Indie on the Move, you know all too well the truth in that philosophy. And the band we’re talking to this week on Face Time believes in those words so much that they became an acronym that forms the band’s name: FIDLAR. Four LA guys who came together in the last few years have made up a lot of ground in only 12 months and managed to cut through the clutter of garage/surf/punk bands out there, with a succession of EP’s, beginning last year with four tunes clocking in at about two minutes each, and released under the name DIYDUI. Now, I can’t speak for the DUI part of that equation, but FIDLAR definitely live the DIY part of it, especially when it comes to music videos. Calling in favors from friends and working with next to no money, they managed to turn out a video for each track from the 2011 EP, each one equally cool in its own way, but completely different from the one before it: “Wait For the Man”, “Wake Bake Skate”, “Max Can’t Surf” and “Oh”. In this conversation shot at SXSW, we talk about each of them, and you’ll see the kidnapping/dismemberment/sci-fi saga that is “Oh” in full. If that’s not reason to check this out, I don’t know what is. FIDLAR’s debut album is out this summer on Mom & Pop Records, but in the meantime enjoy this conversation with some rad guys, and their souvenir piñata, on Noisevox’s Face Time.
